A well-designed entryway can do far more than welcome you home. In Project Roanoke, we turned the front-of-house into a functional hub for daily life without compromising on aesthetics. Custom cabinetry conceals coats, shoes and the clutter that tends to gather by the door, while a dedicated drop zone keeps keys, bags and daily reminders within easy reach. A message centre keeps the household organized in one place, and because pets are family too, we added a dog wash that makes muddy paws far less of a problem. A folding counter makes laundry days easier, and a hidden laundry chute lets clothes drop straight from the upper floor. Durable flooring and easy-to-clean surfaces keep it all practical, while ample lighting keeps the space bright and organized.

By dedicating one side to laundry and the other to everyday entryway needs, we gave the space two clear purposes without it feeling crowded. The laundry side offers efficient storage and a practical work area, while the mudroom side holds shoes, coats, mail and keys. With custom cabinetry, hooks and designated drop zones, every item has its place, which is exactly what makes a compact room feel calm rather than cramped.

A stacked washer and dryer keep the footprint small, while custom hampers and a dedicated folding area make it easy to sort, wash and put everything away in one place. Thoughtful cabinetry keeps supplies organized and out of sight. Placing laundry steps from the wardrobe removes the back-and-forth that makes the chore feel bigger than it is, a smart use of space that quietly saves time every day.
