A comfortable, livable, and beautiful home has always been important to me. When it came time to update our space, the goal was to create a layout that better supports the way we live today.
One of the advantages of my work is the opportunity to see many of the homes we design. Over time, I’ve taken mental note of the details I’m most drawn to, and this project allowed me to thoughtfully incorporate many of those elements into my own home. My personal style leans transitional — blending clean, simple lines with subtle traditional details.
In the kitchen, one of my favourite features is the table integrated into the island at the same height, with seating on all sides. It has become the most used spot in the house — for family dinners, morning coffee, homework, casual gatherings, and even working from home. The turned legs add character while also allowing for additional drawers, creating valuable storage for items such as casserole dishes, platters, napkins, and placemats.
Another key feature is the coffee bar, which has become part of our daily routine. The double bar refrigerator below keeps beverages organized and helps free up space in the main refrigerator. I also love the curved end of the island with open shelving, which offers an opportunity to display a few pieces while keeping everyday bowls and platters within easy reach.
The family room was also fully updated. The highlights include comfortable, well-crafted furniture, a stone fireplace that extends to the height of the ceiling, and custom cabinetry with integrated sconces that provide both additional storage and an area for styling. The neutral palette allows the space to evolve seasonally by simply introducing different colours or accessories.
Most importantly, the space now feels inviting, comfortable, and significantly more functional. A thoughtful design process, carried out step by step, allows every detail to be carefully considered and ultimately creates a home that truly supports the way a family lives.
